Dilly Bars

Ok so Kade didn't like peaches, BUT he more than made up for it when he had his first taste of the Dairy Queen! Yep, we were at Devin & Amanda's for supper and they had dilly bars for dessert. I don't have any pictures of it but I will try and describe it the best I can.

I was eating mine and had the bright idea to let Kade try a bit. He licked the ice cream part (kind of like a cat licking out of a water bowl). I let him have the smallest taste and took it away, all of a sudden his eyes got as big as bowling balls and he grabbed at it with both hands and slammed it into his lips (more like his whole face). He'd just sit there lapping at it and would grab each time I'd take it away. I only let him have a few tastes, but it was pretty exciting!

Like mother, like SON!!

6 MONTHS!

Well last Wednesday, Kade turned 6 months. Mommy has been so busy, that poor Kade's story has been neglected (not Kade himself so don't worry). As I look back to my older posts, I am reminded of how far Kade has come in such a short period of time! He has only been w/us for 1/2 a year and he has physically and mentally made HUGE changes, which seem exhausting to me. So far Kade has:

Grown out of 3 sizes of clothes and diapers
Learned to breastfeed, bottle feed, and eat from a spoon & use a sippy cup
Outgrown a bassinet and sleeps in his big boy crib~in his own room
Rolls over BOTH ways
Stands up while holding your fingers
Scooches backwards on his tummy
Plays toys
Laughs if we do, or if we get his "tickle spot"
Pulls hair and scratches faces (he has a bit of a mean streak)
Sucks his toes

I'm sure he does a lot more that I'm not thinking of, but what a joy he has been! Our nights now consist of running to his room to give him paci when he wakes up (ya I know we shouldn't but he puts his lips out like a little bird and I can't help but give it to him)...then if he's sleeping soundly, mom runs in to make sure he's still breathing (paranoid). So we jump out of bed to check on the little guy about 3-6 times a night.

FISHING W/DAD

It is so amazing what a transformation they go through in such a short period of time. We still aren't eager for crawling/walking as we've heard that's a whole new hurdle. We perk up our ears now when we hear people say "YOU JUST WAIT". Before baby it fell on deaf ears and now we freeze like deer in headlights and ask "WHY and WHAT SHOULD WE DO ABOUT IT??" We of course want him to reach that milestone timely, but are being VERY patient. As of this week he is "swimming" around on the carpet & creeping backwards. He smiles proudly when he rolls from front to back as that's his new accomplishment.

What an experience thus far! We are so blessed to have a happy/healthy boy and looking forward to Kade's future adventures!

Great Grammas!

Kade met his great grandma Flemmer (Brigetta) and great grandma Mortvedt (Cleone), when he made the trip to Beulah a couple weeks ago. The little reunion went wonderfully and brought about much excitement from them. Kade's great grandpas, Bernhardt & Alfred, are both at home in heaven along with his grandpa Melvin. I know the grandpas would have loved to hold Kade on their lap and give him lots of tickles! I picture them looking down at their newest "man" of the family with much pride.
Grandma Flemmer let Kade grab at her arm and pat her hands. In good 'ole grandma Flemmer fashion, she commented on the possibility of Kade spilling the glass of water nearby. I will forever remember how she picks w/her little fingers at lint on the table cloth or her shirt, she is always straightening out whatever is sitting in front of her and smoothing it w/her hand. To me it is soothing and calms me. Anyways, Grandma was very alert for the meet & greet and the staff commented on how she has not been alert for this long of a period in a long time. What the magic of a great grandchild can do! She got a look of pride, yet sorrow in her eye when she heard his middle name was Melvin. Now that I am a mom myself, I have a whole new understanding of the look in her eye as she remembers back to her youngest son. Grandma Mortvedt turned 96 on the 13th of July!!! She is the happiest lady you will ever meet. Typically, she won't even know why she's happy, but every single thing that happens to her is the greatest thing she's ever seen! Kade crawled all over grandma trying to score her yellow buttons (no luck-darn), but poor grandma was almost disrobed in his sweatshirt war towards his treasure! She'd laugh and giggle at him and all Kade could do was tug and pull at her.We ended up having a wonderful visit and took a 4 generation picture of myself, mom, grandma & little Kade! (Who still never gave up on his quest for the yellow buttons!)

Peaches

Tonight was a big night for mommy. Kade has made it through beans, peas, bananas, squash, and sweat potatos, all the blechy foods (per mom). Tonight I was going to "TREAT" my 'lil rascal to some yummy peaches, all sweet and juicy. Ummm, ya here is the reaction I got...

Aack, what are you feeding me lady? I will attack if you continue!

Uuuckie, I really hate them...why do you continue to give them to me??
Ishie!!!...they make my face all squirmy!

I finally gave in and decided my "Treat" was driving him batty. Mean mommie and daddy even video taped it. He didn't like peaches but ate everything I gave him. In the end he forgave me and stared at me with his cute little peachy face!

4th of July!

Despite Kade having high fevers all week, he generously decided to feel better for the Holidays! What a good baby, he only gets sick when there's nothing going on..ha! Mom, Dad, & Kade ventured out to the lake and had a great weekend. Mommy brings plenty of milk, pedialite, diapers, and toys to keep him occupied. We put up the shade and he has his own little tiki hut that he hangs out in to shade him from the sun.

Chad fished a while, then we anchored around an area where other families were playing in the water and having a good time.

Sunday, we headed out again as the weather was so gorgeous we couldn't help ourselves. Kade even drove the boat... (ok we were anchored, notice his life preserver in the back seat...in case you thought we'd drive around without it)

And dad caught the biggest fish of his life!

We stayed up late to see the fireworks and even grilled short ribs on Chad's new mini coal grill. Was a PERFECT weekend, sad to see the long work week is here. BTW...Kade made it through his first full day of daycare w/out a fever today!!

Rub A Dub Dub

It is only a matter of time before my big boy outgrows his infant tub. Here are some misc. pics of his tub time. Notice the "boingy" hair on his head...

One Week Fever

Well about 30 minutes after we got home from the MBF fishing tournament, Kade decided to get sick. He basically screamed the rest of the night. He was warm so I put a cool wash cloth on his head and he got to play "victim" for the camera.
I dropped him off at daycare on Monday and Chad got a call that morning that Kade had a temp of 102.7. Holy Cow!! Chad raced off to take him to the hospital (that's what us new parents do again and again and again) only to find that his temp was 100.6 and he chewed on his chicken toy and laughed at the Dr. Which the Dr. basically laughed Chad out of his office. Well now in daycare land in Fargo, once your little guy has a fever he can't come back for 24 hours (but you still have to pay for that day...ggrrr)...so Chad stayed home with him on Tuesday (all day while Kade screamed and was naughty). Way to go Kade, he's trying to ruin his chances for a sibling!!!
Tuesday night he broke into another fever of 102.6 but it cooled down by morning. He actually slept w/us that night and he just wouldn't settle down. So I went to move him a bit in the bed and he was "on fire". I had to take his sleepy pants off and put another wash rag on his head and let him sleep in his diaper. I also gave him some Tylenol which helped a lot.
So Wednesday I took Kade back to daycare and here I get a call again that he has a 102. something temp. Well now this has been 3 days of fevers this high, it has to be life threating doesn't it??? New mommy heads back to the hospital only to find out his temp is down to 99 and he is giggling for the Dr. again.
Now again he can't go to the daycare on Thursday. So daddy takes off the day so mommy can finish month end at work. Those two had their boxing gloves on by the time I got home. Kade was half sick/half bored and Chad was itching to get out of dirty diaper duty and messy cereal fights. Chad literally worked 1-1/2 days last week, due to this mysterious fever that just stayed around long enough for Kade to get out of daycare. HHhhhmmm??
Mommy, would I lie to you?

MBF Fishing Tournament

Each year on the last weekend in June, there is an annual fishing tournament for Kade's Grandpa Melvin. The last weekend in June is picked because Mel's birthday is June 25th so we want to keep it as close to his birthday as possible. This is a big ordeal where Mel's best friends Robin & Heidi have all Mel's closest friends and relatives out to their lake home to gather and have a great time fishing and celebrating.
Donna, Cherie (w/adult beverage), Cousin Casey, Uncle Shawn, & Aunti Manda...
We made the 4 hour trip to lake Sakakewea and Kade was an angel the whole way there AND back. Not one whine or whimper from him. He played w/his car seat toy, ate, or slept and was content the whole entire trip. At the fishing tournament he charmed everyone he saw with his big smile and twinkly eyes!
He was especially excited to see Grandma Nancy and Auntie Doris, who of course had wonderful gifts for him. Grandma Nancy had the cutest bibs which I was able to dress him in that day....worked great and what a cutie! Auntie Doris had a pile of goodies for the little guy, he got a cool cow (pictured below as Kade played w/it in his crib), his first ever Dr. Seuss book which was autographed by Auntie (his first autographed book too!) Also some cute jeans, socks, and I'm sure his favorite will be his bity biscuits, which I will blog about when he's old enough to indulge in.
He also met his cousin Susie! Wow, did he get some giggles from her. Her and cousin Casey got him a gift certificate to Target, which Kade used already and bought toys for 6month+. How exciting!!! He now has a ball that talks to him and a book that also tells stories, I'm using them to help him learn to crawl toward them, b/c he finds them extra cool!
Ok, now to the conditions of the cabin Kade stayed in. We first go there and all seemed good to go. Of course mommy saw that there were dead moths on the floor, but its a cabin so all was forgiven. Here is a pic of Kade and his Auntie Manda @ the cabin, who is 6 months pregnant w/his new best friend Isaac and mommy....

Well the conditions worsened by night 2 (Thank God there were just 2 nights) Amanda and Cherie left Robin/Heidi's to go to our cabin and sleep around 10pm or so. I was taking Kade out of his car seat and I heard Amanda scream and slam the cabin door as she attempted to enter. What the heck I thought, is there a grizzly in there???? Well here we find out, it is swamped w/moths, like 100's of them!! I could see them swarming the window. Well, Amanda freaks out and is screaming (b/c she was attacked twice) "I'm not staying here" and called the AmericInn in town but they had no openings. We were desperate for somewhere to stay that didn't have this flying vermin. The guys were VERY upset at us and it was not a happy rest of the trip for the girls. I guess we just aren't the camping type...O'well!!! What an awful night, knowing there were so many moths that can land in your hair or mouth as your sleeping...EEEEWwwww!!!
Other than the sleeping conditions, the trip was really fun! We also went into town and met Buffy, my mom's friend who made Kade giggle senseless! Here they are in their "moment"!
Kade also saw his Great Gramma's, I will post later, as Grandma Nancy has some more pics she's emailing me. He met so many people and traveled so far. He was such a big boy and never uttered a peep the whole trip! I'm so proud of my big boy and proud he was able to attend the MBF tournament for 2008!!
